The Rocio del Mar is a steel hull ship built specifically for diving and is not a converted fishing vessel normally seen in the Mexican waters. The ship construction was started in 2006 and was she was launched in November 2008.
The ship offers 10 comfortable guest staterooms on two decks. All have ensuite bathrooms with hot shower stalls, western style toilets, lavatories, and above height window. Each cabin is carpeted and air conditioned. There are room length windows with privacy curtains and convenient gear and clothes storage drawers beneath the beds. Private valuables may be safely stored in the boat’s secure vault. There are two staterooms on the second deck behind the bridge on the port and starboard side. Each features a full-size lower bed and a single bed on top with adjustable reading lights. There are eight cabins on the main deck – four on the port and four starboard side. Six cabins feature two single beds with reading lights. Two cabins feature a double bed with storage space underneath, and adjustable reading lights to focus the illumination without disturbing your cabin-mate. The spacious dining area is in the lower forward part of the boat to minimize any sense of movement during meals.
The crew carefully selects anchorages to minimize any wave action on the 200-ton stiff steel vessel while anchored at night. Oversize engines designed to operate at low working loads with high efficiency, producing less engine noise and vibration at normal cruising speed. Deep V hull design and wave breaking bow knuckle to minimize surface wave action against the hull as the Rocio Del Mar moves forward through the sea. The ship’s destinations include the Sea of Cortez, Midriff Islands, Revillagigedo, and Socorro Islands.
The ship offers nitrox but technical diving and rebreathers are not supported.

Dive Conditions

Located 240 miles (390 kilometers) off the Baja Peninsula, the four Revillagigedo Islands offer some of the best diving in Mexico. Of these, Socorro Island is the most famous. It’s so well-known that often the group of islands is referred to as Socorro Is
All diving at Socorro Island is carried out by liveaboard. These vessels depart from Cabo San Lucas and generally spend about a week around the island and its neighbors. It takes approximately 24 hours transit time to reach this remote destination from th
It’s also important to note that diving at Socorro Island should not be attempted by novice divers. The currents are strong and unpredictable, relegating this to advanced divers only. Because of the biosphere regulations of Socorro Island, divers are proh
November to May is considered the best time to dive in Socorro Island. Liveaboards set sail for this remote island at this time, because the sea conditions in the Pacific are calmest during these months. The weather is generally sunny with occasional rain
Manta rays can be seen throughout the year in Socorro, but during the winter months, divers also have the chance of spotting a whale shark or one of the thousands of humpbacks that breed and calve in the area. At this time, visibility is negatively impact
Water Temperature ranges from 21-23C/70-74F during the winter and 24-28C/76-82f during late fall and spring. Usually, a 5mm wetsuit with an optional hooded vest works well at Socorro. Dive gloves are not permitted at Socorro by law. Underwater visibility
