Crystal Blue Resort – Anilao, Philippines

Your hosts are Mike Bartick, Anilao expert and owner of Saltwater Photo.com, and Liquid Diving Adventure's owners Greg and Gail Carter. Mike knows the Anilao reefs inside and out, and will show you where to take that perfect wide-angle, macro or critter shot. This amazing photo clinic will provide new photographers and experienced photographers alike the opportunity to work and learn with Mike. With his skills as a naturalist knowing the critters, and as a photographer understanding composure, lighting, exposure, and how to capture critter behavior, every diver will benefit from this trip regardless of their experience level. 

Why are we diving in March...? March is a bit cooler in the Philippines and offers some great diving. Water temps range around 78-80 degrees F which is too cool for the locals, so the dive sites are our to enjoy. Expect to see tons of nudibranches, octopus activity is higher then normal and we see rhinopias too. In fact, all of the most sought after critters are present from November through May, at different times.

Anilao boasts some of the richest reefs in the world. You will be overwealmed with photo opportunities that will fill up your camera's memory card. Mike's favorite critterscan be found in Anilao - rhinopias, blue-ring octopus, hairy frogfish, flamboyant cuttlefish & Bobbit worms, along with huge schools of jacks, great barracuda, sharks, and beautiful soft corals. Anilao is also the nudibranch capital of the world!

Crystal Blue Resort features 17 well-appointed air conditioned rooms, an excellent chef, wi-fi service, nitrox blending, and a photo facility with 25 camera bays (called one of the best in the world by guests and Undercurrent). This is an intimate resort that caters to divers and underwater photographers.

Anilao Photo Workshop Itinerary

Day one of the trip will include two dives in the afternoon. It is recommended that you arrive either the day before and spend the night at an airport hotel, or arrive before 10am on the morning of the first day. Sorry, we can't offer refunds for missed dives if you arrive late!

Each subsequent day of the trip includes four dives, two in the morning and two in the afternoon. There will be underwater photo seminars in between dives. On the last day there will be two morning dives and departure from the resort will be on the following day.

A new dive resort we are offering is NAD-Lembeh in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Famous the world over for its peerless macro and muck diving, the Lembeh Strait region offers more than just face to face encounters with weird and wonderful critters. The resort is nestled between two hills inside a tranquil bay on Lembeh Island, a short boat ride from Bitung Harbour and minutes away from all the top dive sites of the region. Despite the proximity to Bitung there is a clean beach with some nice corals and lots of wildlife at the waters' edge. A sunset Kayak trip can lead to close encounters with Kingfishers, Egrets, Sea Kytes to name a few.

With ten rooms and four bungalows on site, the resort blends seamlessly into a beautiful green backdrop of native flora fronting a small beach and wonderful house reef dive. A new dive resort company we are offering is Two Fish Divers with three Indonesia locations: Bunaken Island, Lembeh Strait, and Bali / Nusa Lembongan.

Two Fish Divers on Bunaken Island is a tropical-island resort right by the beach, based in beautiful garden surroundings, with cottages that surround a fantastic swimming pool. Right in the heart of the award-winning Bunaken Marine Park, the scuba diving offers beautiful corals, lots of fish, amazing small critters, and some larger exciting creatures including reef sharks, turtles and barracudas. Two Fish Divers on Lembeh Island is situated on a private beach with its own bay, with most of the dive sites only 10 minutes away. We only cater for 20-24 divers, so you get very personal attention. Hunting for amazing critters in Lembeh Straits, the muck diving capital of the world. From Lembeh we can also offer great day-trips to nearby Bangka Island or Gangga Island (about an hour away) which have some great scuba diving with stunning soft-coral dives. Packages for 7 nights are $830 USD per person.

Two Fish Divers Resort on Lembongan Island, Bali can be found near the traditional village of Jungutbatu, only a two minute walk from the sandy beach where the dive boats depart. Fast becoming one of Bali's most popular attractions, Lembongan Island is a paradise that is a world away from the pollution, hassles and hectic pace of Bali. There are no hawkers, no traffic, and magnificent scenery and is the perfect place to put your feet up and relax. Popular with families weary of travel warnings, this island is a safe little spot to enjoy a perfect Bali diving holiday. Packages for 7 nights are $550 USD per person.
